The Leaves Fell Today…
Whether from fatigue,
or disappointment,
they didn’t say.
It started with a rustle,
strong enough to make me
think someone was
stalking me in the forest.
But, when I scanned
the empty space around me
all I could see was
a falling curtain
of brown and golden leaves.
It didn’t feel seasonal,
or scientific.
It felt like a last breath,
a sigh, a letting go.
The leaves fell today…
and so did I.
